Hey. This is Hydie. I am a travel bug-turned-homeschooling mom, a.k.a. your average imperfect mama. I live in sunny Southern California with my beautiful family. In my former life, I was a student affairs professional in higher education and enjoyed working with my students.

Why Start a Blog?

I never liked kids and spent very little time reading anything about parenting–that was until I gave birth to a lovely little girl myself. Raising a kid opens up a whole new world for me. From learning to breastfeed and changing diapers to experimenting different methods to communicate and connect with my child, I find myself constantly shredding old knowledge and gaining new ones. There is a lot of unlearning and relearning involved–which prompts me to look into alternative ways to educate and raise my kid.

This blog is written as a record and witness to my daughter’s growth and learning as well as my own reflections through the process. Some of the topics involve unschooling, homeschooling, parenting, health & wellness, book reviews, and traveling.

Sunny Side… What?

Yes – I LOVE sunny side up eggs!!! While this is true, it’s definitely NOT the reason why I name this blog the way it is. I’ve been through many tough moments in my life. At my worst moments, I tried my best to stay optimistic and look for something positive. I believe there’s always a sunny side in every situation. It’s all about learning and shifting perspectives, and I love it when I find a new point to admire and celebrate. You always learn something.
