Hey. Hello. Welcome to my blog – Sunny Side Up Learners!
My name is Hydie and I am happy to be here, sharing my experiences and thoughts with y’all.
I am typing this first post at midnight right now. It’s way past my desired bedtime (which is 10pm), but I am too excited to go to bed.
Oh, maybe I should do a little self intro first so you know what I am talking about:
Who’s Talking Here?
I am a 1st generation, queer Chinese-American residing in Southern California. I was originally born and raised in Hong Kong, and immigrated to the U.S. when I was 14. I am now at my late 30’s. In my free time, I love traveling, exploring, reading, hiking, camping, drawing, and learning about different cultures. I studied psychology and visual arts – film & video (media) in college, and despite swearing never to take a job in office settings, I spent 9 years working full time as an administrator in overseas universities. I traveled around with my husband, Mr. T, very often and we loved every minute of it. Having a great partner in life is one of the biggest blessings I have.
Five years ago, I returned to the U.S. and became “self-employed” and worked full-time serving my “boss”, a.k.a. my precious Miss R, who has paid me nothing but love and kisses in return. I have no regret and plan on continuing my job for the rest of my life. This year, we started homeschooling officially and although there were many confusions and frustrations, it has been one awesome year of learning and growth.
What’s This Blog About?
In this blog, I hope to share with you not only tips and resources on unschooling (our approach to child-led learning) and homeschooling, but also their ups and downs and realities. If you are new to homeschooling or struggling to find the best way that suits your family’s learning style, I hope you find some of the resources provided here helpful.
There will be also be self-reflections on parenting and health & well-being (mental health in particular), as well as reviews on books, products, and apps that we found helpful during our homeschooling journey. Occasionally I will also recommend products and affiliate links to earn some extra income to support our living.
I hope you enjoy reading my blog and please feel free to share any comments or questions you might have. Thank you and see you soon!
